Whenuapai hangar 1, 2 & 4 replacement

In 2017 Neo Consulting (formerly Ergo Control Systems) undertook a review of the power supply and distribution switchboards for the Whenuapai Hangars 1, 2 and 4. These switchboards have been in service for an estimated 50-60 years and have far exceeded their expected lifespan. The purpose of this investigation was to review the current condition of the electrical switchgear and its compliance to the latest NZ standards.

The switchrooms and switchboards were in poor condition requiring significant updating. Consideration was made for limiting any disturbance to the existing cables. In particular careful attention was given to the MIMS cables which have specialist requirements and aren’t readily available in New Zealand.

The proposed method for changeover offered a controlled migration of loads from the existing to the new switchboard, thereby minimising the downtime of effected equipment.
